http://asas-ins.com/index.php/iefrr/article/view/17

This article raises the issue of people's rejection of usury practices and the debate around prohibiting bank interest. As a Muslim-majority country, Indonesia is trying to integrate the economy with sharia principles, by not only relying on the views of Sunni scholars. The author's focus in this article is on the views of Shia scholars, especially Bāqir Sadr, a leading scholar in science and technology. Despite his Shia origins, Bāqir Sadr issued a fatwa prohibiting bank interest, even though bank interest is a popular part of the modern economic tool. Bāqir Sadr's view distinguishes between the textualists, who take the law literally, and the contextualists, who consider the modern situation more broadly. Research into Bāqir Sadr's view opens up new perspectives for modern contextualists to seek justification for banning bank interest through the perspective of textuality. By investigating Bāqir Sadr's views, this article provides a new perspective for researchers who are more inclined to a contextual view in addressing the issue of prohibiting bank interest.
Yusron Ali Sya’bana

The Islamic worldview has a unique foundation of values, principles, and beliefs, which encourage economic practices that differ from conventional capitalism. However, in the era of globalization, the dominance of capitalism has affected various aspects of life including the economy in countries with a majority Muslim population. This article will discuss the implications and challenges faced by Islamic economics in the face of capitalist hegemony, as well as efforts to promote an alternative economy based on Islamic values.
Arridho AbduhM.
